Phil and Connie Prichard have been crafting great spirits for a while now. Their distillery in Kelso, TN boasts some of the prettiest copper pot stills I've ever seen and their bourbon and rums are superb. I reintroduced myself to their Key Lime Rum at the national parrot head convention in Key West this year, Meeting of the Minds 2012. I featured four different distilleries over a week of cocktail and tasting events at the Rum Barrel on Front Street - I didn't think I'd run out of any product, but the Key Lime Rum was more than a hit and we drained the last bottle with hours left to go on the final day of cocktails.
We created a simple but tasty cocktail, the "Prichard's Key Lime Cooler" and sold the everlasting you-know-what out of them for days. Prichard's Key Lime Rum, lemon lime soda, and a sprig of mint. The natural key lime flavor of the rum balanced with the sweet citrus of the soda, creating a light refreshing cocktail that had people ordering again and again. The bar staff had an easy cocktail to make, people loved it, success was achieved. Try it at home; the flavors make a great cocktail for patio events, back yard hangouts, and post-holiday feasts.
